Magnitude 5.9 Earthquake Strikes Northern Argentina – US Geological Survey

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake has shaken Argentina’s north on Sunday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The quake was registered at 3:52 p.m. local time [18:52 GMT]. The epicenter of the earthquake was in 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) northwest of the Argentine city of Yuto at a depth of about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

There were no immediate reports on the victims of the quake.

According to the Richter scale, earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.0-5.9 are considered to be moderate, however, they can lead to casualties and cause damage to buildings and infrastructure.
