MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Venezuela handed a note of a protest to the US embassy in Caracas after US President Barack Obama signed the executive order declaring Venezuela a threat to the United States, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez announced Friday.

"This must make the US government reflect. Look at the map, the map that is telling the whole world, to the United States, to its government, to its administration, to cease aggression against Venezuela and to reverse the execution of this executive order and to repeal its consequences," Rodriguez said in a televised message, showing a map of the world demonstrating countries that have spoken out against the order.

The relations between the United States and Venezuela worsened over the Venezuelan government's alleged human rights violations during protests in Caracas in February 2014.

On March 9, US President Barack Obama signed the executive order declaring Venezuela a threat to US national security and sanctioning seven more Venezuelan officials.

Several countries, including Ecuador, spoke out against the executive order.
