Proton, Russia's Legendary Space Launch Vehicle

The Proton carrier rocket (formal designation: UR-500), is a Russian-made expendable launch system.

Originally designed as a super heavy ICBM, the rocket is employed both for commercial and Russian government space launches. It is manufactured at the Khrunichev State Research and Production Center facility in Moscow, and is capable of delivering spacecraft to low Earth and geostationary orbit.
