The resignation comes just a day after Jeremy Corbyn, the head of the Labour Party, agreed to meet with UK Prime Minister Theresa May in order to discuss the Brexit process after the House of Commons rejected May's withdrawal plan several times.

Nigel Adams, a Wales Minister and whip, stated on Wednesday that Theresa May's decision to shift towards a softer Brexit and start talks with Jeremy Corbyn was a "grave error". According to him, now it is clear that the United Kingdom will "end up in the customs union".

"That is not the Brexit my constituents were promised, and it is contrary to the pledge we made in our manifesto", Adams said.

"I believe we have two great challenges. We must deliver the Brexit the people voted for. And we must prevent the calamity of a Corbyn government", he added, stressing that the country is "at risk of simultaneously failing in both".

Britain was supposed to leave the European Union on 29 March but missed the deadline, while Brussels gave London time until 12 April to offer an alternative solution or leave without a deal on that same day.
