Only 22 percent of respondents believe that the refugee issue should be resolved at the national level while 36 percent expect a common EU solution and 34 percent support measures at both EU and national levels. At the same time only 13 percent of Germans believe that the EU member states will manage to achieve a common solution for the refugee issue in the near future.
The poll was conducted on July 25 – 26 with 1,083 people having participated in it.
The European Union has been facing a massive influx of migrants and refugees fleeing from war and poverty in African in Asian states. In 2015, some 1 million migrants and refugees arrived in Germany. Since the beginning of 2017, over 100,000 migrants and refugees have come to Europe with a vast majority having arrived in Italy, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
