TALLINN (Sputnik) – The Estonian parliament was unable to elect a new president in the first round of the vote as all three candidates failed to reach sufficient number of votes, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.
Former Estonian Education Minister Mailis Reps, former Chancellor of Justice Allar Joks and parliamentary Speaker Eiki Nestor were confirmed as candidates on Sunday.
The term of the current president, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, will expire in autumn 2016. He is unable to run again as he has already served two terms.
