MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The men preached to gatherings of 50 to 70 people and called them to join the Daesh in Syria, the statement continued.
"Yousaf Bashir, 36 (17.05.80) from Luton was found guilty of one count of addressing a meeting to encourage support for a proscribed organisation. Rajib Khan, 38 (01.05.78) from Luton was found guilty of one count of arranging/assisting in arranging/managing a meeting to support a proscribed organisation and one count of addressing a meeting to encourage support for a proscribed organisation. Mohammed Istiak Alamgir, 37 (13.06.79) from Luton, was found guilty of three counts of addressing a meeting to encourage support for a proscribed organisation," MPS said in a statement.
Their efforts were not fruitless as at least two persons were jailed earlier this year on terrorism charges. Junead Khan, 25, also from Luton, was sentenced for life in prison for planning a plot to attack soldiers from major US air bases in England, as well as for a plan to go to Syria to join the Daesh. His nephew, Shazib Khan, 23, was jailed for 13 years for plans to join the Daesh in Syria along with his uncle.
The Daesh, a group outlawed in Russia, the United States and many other countries, seized vast territories in Iraq and Syria. It is notorious for recruiting scores of foreign fighters, mostly via social media.
