A leading advocate for Brexit, former UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage appears to be having second thoughts about severing ties with mainland Europe.

Having helped convince British citizens to vote Leave in the Brexit referendum, Farage’s personal life has, since the vote, taken a number of bizarre turns. To begin, after successfully convincing the United Kingdom to abandon one of the most significant post-WWII institutions, he stepped down from his leadership position, apparently to avoid the messy details of navigating the historic transition."

Then, in his retirement, he decided to sprout an unfortunate mustache.

Most recently, Farage was spotted in the most unlikely of places for a die-hard eurosceptic: waiting in line at the German embassy. While the reason is unknown, some speculated that the politician was applying for German citizenship.

"Sighted: Nigel Farage in the queue at the German embassy with me and my fellow European citizens," witness Leonie Witte posted to Facebook. "I guess he realized he really kinda screwed us over and is quickly trying to also get some dual citizenship.

"I say we start a petition to NOT ALLOW THIS."

Too Little Too Late: Brexit Lies Cause Hysteria Among the Masses

It doesn’t help matters that Farage, whose wife is German, initially denied the speculation. According to the Spectator, when asked by reporters if he was applying for German citizenship, he said "none of your business."

According to political blog Guido Fawkes, a spokesman for Farage has since claimed, "it is 'not true' that he is applying for German citizenship."

Understandably, the possibility that Farage is attaching his own landline to Europe after convincing all of the UK to do the opposite, has ruffled a few feathers.

If he wants to regain some goodwill, Farage could start by shaving off that mustache.
