Ukraine Security Service Says Blocks Several Daesh Recruit Transit Channels

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said on Thursday that it had blocked several Islamic States (IS) channels for transferring recruits through the territory of Ukraine.

KIEV (Sputnik) — In the city of Kharkiv, the special services found private apartment, which was used for the temporary stay of Daesh members, who intended to move to the occupied territories of Syria and Iraq. The security forces detected four foreigners in the apartment, two of them were deported from Turkey over involvement in terrorist activities.

"Several transit channels of Daesh terrorist groupn for transferring foreign militants through the territory of our state have been blocked by the Security Service of Ukraine, assisted by the prosecutor's office, police and migration service," the SBU said in a statement.

The security service added that the two foreigners had been forcibly expelled from the territory of Ukraine under a court decision, the checks of two more are ongoing.

The security service said it had detained an Interpol-wanted native of one of the former Soviet republics in the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro. The detained man was allegedly directly involved in the recruitment and delivery of Daesh supporters from Central Asia to Syria.

Another Daesh supporter with an international arrest warrant was detained in the Kiev Region. According to the SBU data, he was trained in Syria in 2014-2015 and directly participated in the hostilities in Syria and Iraq as part of Daesh forces.
