UK Service Police Conduct 94 Probes of Sexual Offenses in the Army in 2015

A total of 94 investigations of sexual offenses involving 113 victims were carried out within the UK Armed Forces by the country's Service Police in 2015, the UK Defense Ministry said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The largest number of sexual abuse cases investigated by the Service Police took place within the United Kingdom (42 percent or 39 cases) and Germany (35 percent or 33 cases).

"The Service Police conducted 82 investigations into offences contrary to the SOA 03 [Sexual Offences Act 2003] and 12 investigations into historical sexual offences… The 94 investigations involved 102 suspects (98 male, 3 female, 1 unidentified) and 113 victims (27 male and 86 female)," the ministry said in a report.

According to the report, the main purpose of publishing the data is to provide relevant information for policy and decision making within the ministry as well as general debate in the government.
