PARIS (Sputnik) — President Francois Hollande said on Friday that a bill, seeking to extend by three months the state of emergency in the wake of the Nice truck attack, would go before the Parliament on Wednesday.
"The government-proposed text requests an extension by three months. As for six months, we are open to debate on this but let’s wait until tonight," Valls told reporters.
He explained that the government would look into any motion that could increase efficiency of security measures, but said constitutionality was a concern.
France has been on high alert since deadly Paris attacks in November 2015. The state of emergency was due to expire on July 26. France’s main opposition party, the Republicans, proposed in a communique on Monday extending the state of emergency by a minimum of six months.
