Death Penalty in Turkey Not to Be Restored Despite Erdogan's Plan - Party
BERLIN (Sputnik) — Death penalty is incompatible with the European principles, the German Foreign Minister said on Monday, calling on Turkey not to take a step back in the negotiations with the European Union.

"In the talks I will have with Turkey, I will show that the abolition of the death penalty in Turkey became an important step to be made to start the EU accession negotiations. I hope that Turkey will not go back on the chosen path. Anyways, even from a legal point of view… the death penalty is incompatible with the European principles," Frank-Walter Steinmeier told reporters after a EU foreign ministers meeting.
