Council of Europe Head Offers Condolences to France After Nice Attack

Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland offered on Friday his and the organization's condolences to the French people after an attack on the city of Nice.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Late on Thursday evening, a heavy truck rammed into a crowd celebrating the Bastille Day in Nice, killing 84 and injuring dozens.

Three-Day National Mourning Declared in France After Nice Attack

"Our Organisation stands shoulder to shoulder with the French people and with our many French colleagues. We mourn the victims and stay resolute against the terrorists who seek in vain to destroy our values," Jagland said in a statement.

The driver was shot dead by police. According to documents found inside the truck, he was a 31-year-old man who was a resident of Nice of Tunisian origin.
