UK Defense Secretary Adopts Security Measures to Support Eastern Europe
10:24 GMT 08.07.2016 (Updated: 10:37 GMT 08.07.2016) The Defence Secretary of the United Kingdom, Michael Fallon authorized a package of measures to support allies in the East of Europe, the Defense Ministry said Friday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Thousands of UK troops will be on standby ready to be deployed wherever needed within days, "as the UK leads NATO’s quick reaction spearhead force."
"The Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has authorised a package of defence support to allies in the East of Europe as they face threats such as aggression from Russia," the statement said.
As part of the authorized measures 500 UK troops will be deployed in Estonia "to provide reassurance and to react immediately to any crisis or incident."
About 150 personnel with equipment will be sent to Poland. The package also stipulates a target to train 4,000 Ukrainian soldiers by the end of March 2017.
