MOSCOW (Sputnik) — International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde said Sunday that the UK decision to leave the European Union can give the bloc more freedom to implement reforms.
"I have heard European commissioners, one after the other, say, ‘this is so complicated, we can’t do it because of the British'… Maybe there are things that one should consider doing now that the British aren’t going to be sitting at the table," she said as quoted by The Financial Times.
She added that the European Union could come out of Brexit on top.
On June 23, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.
