Russia is going to develop further cooperation with the EU, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksey Meshkov said Tuesday.

Meshkov said that Moscow and Brussels used to have a well-structured system of relations, including summits, ministerial meetings, expert consultation among others.

"Now, a part of these mechanism, including the Russia-EU summit has been put on hold. Some of them continue to work. We carried out some examination [of relations]. Now our colleagues from the European Union say that they are also intending to examine the relations and then see how to move on," he concluded.

Brussels has introduced a series of sanctions against Russia following the 2014 reunification of Crimea with Russia and the crisis in Ukraine. In response to the EU restrictive measures, Russia imposed an embargo against some food products originating from the countries that targeted it with sanctions.
