Ukraine Has No Need for Russian Electricity Supplies

Ukraine rejects the need of Russian electricity supplies, Ukrainian Energy Minister Ihor Nasalyk said Monday.

KIEV (Sputnik) — Ukraine is not experiencing any power shortages and does not need electricity supplies from Russia, Ukrainian Energy Minister Ihor Nasalyk said Monday.

"We have not minus 2,000 megawatts, as predicted at the beginning of the summer period, but a surplus of 2,200…and we do not need annual support from Russia," Nasalyk wrote on his Facebook page.

Russia and Ukraine suffer severe energy crisis due to huge dependence of the foremer on The Russian energy resources. Ukraine intends to buy electricity from Russia because of lack of own capacity. It was noted that Kiev has asked Russia to supply electricity as a "technical assistance". However, such an import costs three times more than commercial delivery.
