BERLIN (Sputnik) — Italy expects the European Council to act decisively when it meets next Tuesday to discuss the outcome of the UK’s referendum on the EU membership, the Italian foreign minister said Saturday.
The United Kingdom voted on Thursday to quit the European Union, prompting the Council to call an emergency meeting where EU leaders, minus UK Prime Minister David Cameron, will consider further steps.
"We expect decisions from the EU Council next week that will have significance," Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said.
Gentiloni arrived in Berlin on Saturday for urgent talks with counterparts from EU's five core members — Germany, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
