Brexit Vote to Have Major Impact on UK, EU, World in General - OECD Chief

Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and development (OECD), Angel Gurría, said Friday that the outcome of the recent UK's vote on EU membership would have major consequences on Great Britain, the European Union and the whole world.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Thursday, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Britain leaving the European Union, while about 16.1 million opposed it.

“Yesterday’s vote on the United Kingdom’s membership of the European Union has major consequences for the UK itself, the EU and the international community," Gurria said in a statement.

"While it is on the public record that this was not the OECD’s recommended course of action, the focus must now shift to dealing with the outcome of this democratic process," he stressed.
