Eighty four Conservative UK parliament members in favor of Brexit (UK leaving the European Union) have pledged support to British Prime Minister David Cameron regardless of the results of the nationwide referendum on EU membership, The Irish Times reports.

LONDON (Sputnik) – In a letter to Cameron, the MPs said they would support the prime minister even if Britain votes to leave the bloc, the newspaper said late on Thursday. The signatories of the letter include former London mayor Boris Johnson.

"We believe whatever the British people decide, you have both a mandate and a duty to continue leading the nation," the letter says.

Cameron has led the pro-Remain campaign despite initiating the referendum.

According to YouGov poll results released right after the voting ended, 52 percent of Brits are in favor or remaining part of the European Union, while 48 percent support Brexit (leaving the EU).

No exit polls are expected at this referendum, therefore the world will get the idea of the vote's outcome only as the results appear throughout the night. Final result will be announced on Friday morning.
