German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Party has improved its standing in the national polls after months of poor ratings, a new survey has found.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A research by Insa pollster for the Bild newspaper showed late Monday that 31 percent would vote for the CDU if the 2017 parliament election was on Sunday.

The CDU party, which is a senior partner in the ruling CDU-CSU-SPD coalition, rose by 1 percent since the previous week after its rating had been in decline for months amid rifts within the "grand coalition."

The same poll showed the Green party standing at 13 percent after gaining 1 percentage point, while support for the populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) shrank by 1 percent.
