BERLIN (Sputnik) — Police held five Russian youths on Thursday after they allegedly clashed with Spanish nationals outside Cologne’s landmark cathedral. A sixth man was arrested in Cologne Airport the following day but was soon freed.
"I can confirm that five Russians were arrested and are in custody. The sixth was released due to a lack of evidence that would prove his connection to the incident," the spokesman told RIA Novosti.
German police said earlier they were checking the arrested youths with French authorities for links to violence by fans in the French city of Marseille during the Euro 2016 football tournament. The men had football tickets for Russia-England and Russia-Slovakia matches.
