Mental Health Disorder Cases in UK Army Almost Double Since 2007

Mental health disorders cases in the British armed forces has increased by almost 80 percent since 2007, the UK Ministry of Defence said in a report.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The number of cases of mental health disorders in the British armed forces has increased by almost 80 percent since 2007, the UK Ministry of Defence said in a report.

The report published Thursday represents statistical information on mental health in the British Army and covers the period from April 1, 2007, to March 31, 2016.

"Assessments for mental disorders at MOD [Ministry of Defense] Specialist mental health services have risen steadily from 1.8% of UK Armed Forces personnel in 2007/08, to 3.2% in 2015/16," the report said.

According to the report, women serving in the UK armed forces have been diagnosed with mental health disorders twice as often as men in 2015-2016.

The report also revealed that neurotic disorders were the most common mental disorders among UK military personnel. The finding correlates with the trend seen among the general population of the United Kingdom.
