No Clashes Between Fans in France's Lille on Day of Russia-Slovakia Match

The security situation remains calm in the French city of Lille which is hosting a match between Russia and Slovakia in the Euro 2016 football championship with no clashes between fans, Michel Lalande, the head of the regional prefecture of France's northern Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie region, said Wednesday.

LILLE (Sputnik) — Earlier on Wednesday, some 4,000 law enforcement officers were deployed in Lille to ensure security. Alcohol sales were also limited in the city.

"Everything is calm, there's been nothing serious," Lalande told RIA Novosti.

The match between the Russian and Slovakian national teams is taking place at Stade Pierre Mauroy.

On June 11, the Russian national football team played in a draw with the team of England at the Velodrome stadium in Marseille within the UEFA’s Euro 2016.

After the match, the clashes between dozens of Russian and English fans erupted at the stadium. Later, two Russian nationals were detained after scuffles between Russian and English fans at the Velodrome stadium in Marseille.
