PARIS (Sputnik) — France's Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve confirmed Tuesday that Monday's attack on a police officer and his family near Paris was an act of terrorism.
"A dirty terrorist attack took place," Cazeneuve said leaving crisis talks convened by French President Francois Hollande.
Earlier in the day, French government spokesman Stephane Le Foll also confirmed that the policeman stabbing was "a terrorist attack."
On Monday evening, a man stabbed a 42-year-old police commander and took hostages at the house of the murdered, including the victim's wife and child, in the Paris northwestern suburb of Magnanville.
The murderer, identified as Larossi Abballa, was killed in the assault by riot police. The commander's wife is also reported to have been stabbed to death.
