French Unions Announce Strikes Against Labor Reform in May, June
PARIS (Sputnik) – The French labor reform bill, which has sparked nationwide protests, may yet be "improved," Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Thursday.

"Changing the basis of the bill’s text is out of the question, but we can always introduce amendments, improvements," Valls said, as broadcast by the BFMTV television channel.

The prime minister stressed that he did not intend to withdraw the controversial labor bill.

The draft law on labor reform has been widely criticized in France as it would make it easier for companies to lay off staff and cut payment for overtime work. Labor union rallies intensified after the government resorted to pushing through with the reform bypassing a parliamentary vote earlier this month.
