"Such move [freeing Savchenko by Russia and two Russians by Ukraine] that took place today is a sign, a special factor, that these [Russian-Ukrainian] relations may be restored; it can be even a stage of such restoring relations between Ukraine and Russia," Medvedchuk told the Rossiya-24 TV-channel.
According to Medvedchuk, view this "humanitarian move" is of great importance.
"Today the relations between our countries are not very good, the emerged crisis that has been lasting for last two years needs a contribution to restoring relations," he said.
On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to pardon Ukrainian national Nadezhda Savchenko who was convicted in Russia of being an accomplice to the murder of two journalists in Donbas.
Savchenko was delivered to Kiev following the pardoning. On the same day, a plane carrying Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov, Russian citizens convicted and sentenced in Ukraine for terrorism-related activities landed at Moscow’s Vnukovo Internatinal Airport, after Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a corresponding decree to pardon them.
