Pro-Presidential Party DISY Wins Cyprus Parliamentary Elections

Cyprus' pro-presidential conservative Democratic Rally (DISY) won on Sunday the country's parliamentary elections with over 30 percent of votes, according to the country's Interior Ministry.

ATHENS (Sputnik) — The Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) secured some 25.67 percent of votes, while the Democratic Party (DIKO) came third with nearly 14.5 percent. A total of nine parties managed to enter parliament.

According to media reports, DISY is due to secure 19 seats in the parliament out of 56, while AKEL and DIKO are projected to receive 15 and nine, respectively.

The vote turnout stood at 66.74 percent, while during the 2011 parliamentary elections in Cyprus some 78.7 percent of eligible voters cast ballots.
