PARIS (Sputnik) – French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo ridiculed the results of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
"Russia lost to Ukraine at the Eurovision. Talent yielded to politics," a caption under a picture portraying two apparently singing pigs read.
The disparity between televoting and professional jury results caused public outrage with more than 370,000 people having signed a petition for the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Eurovision Song Contest to review the results of the contest. The EBU refused to revise the results.
The Charlie Hebdo magazine is known for its satirical cartoons. In January 2015, its headquarters was attacked by terrorists, with 12 people getting killed. The attack was allegedly motivated by the magazine’s publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.
