UK Police Confirm Package Found at Manchester Stadium 'Training Device'

A suspicious package found at the Old Trafford stadium in the UK city of Manchester has been identified as a training device accidentally left after an exercise, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Sunday, the stadium was evacuated ahead of Manchester United’s game against Bournemouth after the package had been discovered. Security forces have carried out a controlled explosion of the package.

"Following today’s controlled explosion, we have since found out that the item was a training device which had accidentally been left by a private company following a training exercise involving explosive search dogs," Assistant Chief Constable John O’Hare from Greater Manchester Police said, as quoted by the statement published on Manchester United's website.

The Manchester United football club will play Bournemouth on Tuesday, May 17, after their Premier League match-up was canceled due to the evacuation.
