ROME (Sputnik) – Italian Senate, the upper house of the parliament, voted against two motions of no-confidence to the government of Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on Tuesday, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.
The senators considered a motion submitted by the opposition 5-Star Movement, and the one filled by the center-right Forza Italia party and the right-wing Northern League.
The move comes after late March resignation of Italian Minister of Economic Development Federica Guidi amid a waste disposal investigation involving her partner Gianluca Gemelli.
Gemelli is suspected of corruption and abuse of power with respect to French oil company Total. Investigators contend that he used his relationship with Guidi to fast-track one of the company’s projects. Italian Minister of Constitutional Reforms and Relations with Parliament Maria Elena Boschi has also been implicated in the scandal.
