Latvian activist appealed against the suspension of the Rossiya-RTR channel broadcasting.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Latvian activist and former Jurmala City Council member Janis Kuzins has appealed to the Riga Administrative Court against the National Electronic Media Council's (NEPLP) decision to suspend the broadcasting of the Russian-based international Rossiya-RTR channel.

"I have filed the appropriate application to the administrative court. I watch the Rossiya-RTR channel myself and I consider this [suspension] to be a violation of my consumer rights," Kuzins told RIA Novosti.

On Thursday, the NEPLP decided to suspend Rossiya-RTR from broadcasting on Latvian territory for six months. Earlier, the council head stated that the channel had committed three violations by allegedly broadcasting "war propaganda."

The channel had been suspended for three months in 2015 over similar allegations.

Latvia has been stepping up its restriction of media outlets. In March, Latvian authorities notified the Sputnik international news agency of suspending its dissemination within the.lv domain zone found in purported violation of EU regulation.

In August, Latvia refused to register the Rossiya Segodnya international news agency's bureau, as the documents submitted as part of the registration process allegedly did not comply with the country's law. The Russian Foreign Ministry dismissed the claim as discriminatory and politicized.
