Poroshenko Claims to be Preparing Reforms to Make Offshores Impossible
07:20 GMT 06.04.2016 (Updated: 08:01 GMT 06.04.2016) Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Wednesday he was preparing reforms in the country that would make the use of offshores impossible.
TOKYO (Sputnik) – Poroshenko also said that his personal financial activities with offshores were completely transparent and legal.
On Sunday, the German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung exposed alleged involvement of a number of former and current world leaders, including Ukraine's president, in tax havens schemes using the information obtained in materials allegedly leaked from Mossack Fonseca, a Panama firm selling offshore companies.
It comes a day after the Radical Party of Ukraine announced launch of the impeachment process against President Petro Poroshenko over his alleged involvement into the tax heaven schemes.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) refused to launch investigation into the matter saying it exceeds its authority.
Mossack Fonseca refused to validate the information contained in the leaks and accused reporters of gaining unauthorized access to its proprietary documents. It warned that using unlawfully-obtained data was a crime that it would not hesitate to punish by legal means.
