Ukraine Needs Functional Government to Implement Minsk Accords - Czech PM

Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said that Ukraine needs a functional government to be able to execute reforms in the country.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Ukrainian government should become functional to be able to work with Russia on the implementation of Minsk agreements to settle the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said in Washington, DC on Thursday.

"We need functional government in place in Ukraine," Sobotka stated at the Brookings Institution. "What we need in Ukraine is a stable government that will be a viable partner towards Russia when talking about the application implementation of Minsk agreements."

The Czech prime minister added that Kiev needs a functional government to be able to execute reforms in the country.

Sobotka continued that current political situation in Ukraine is very unstable as the government undergoes many personnel changes amid tensions in parliament.

In February, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said achievement of political stability in Ukraine will guarantee the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements.

In February 2015, Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine worked out a ceasefire deal in Minsk later signed by Kiev and the Donbas militia. Despite the fact that the agreement was reached a year ago, both sides have been repeatedly reporting violations of the deal.
