A security guard was killed at the Tihange nuclear power plant in Charleroi Thursday evening and his access badge was stolen, Dernier Heure reports.

The man was out walking his dog when he was shot in the early evening, the newspaper reports.

His security badge which gives access to the sensitive sites of the NPP was not found after his death.

This disturbing report came after Belgian police gave testimony suggesting that Brussels suspect attackers El Bakraoui brothers may have aimed to blow up a nuclear power plant in the Belgian capital.

The police in December had seize a video shortly after the attacks in Paris, which showed that Daesh may have been monitoring the movements of the chief of the Belgian nuclear program through a hidden camera outside of his home.

It is not clear, however, whether the Thursday’s murder has any links to the Brussels attacks or not.

One detail is bothersome: the country’s interior minister Jan Jambon has not raised security level at the Belgian NPPs despite police reports.

On Tuesday, two suicide blasts hit the Brussels Airport and another explosion occurred at the Maelbeek metro station in the city, near EU institutions, killing 31 people and injuring over 300. Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attacks.
