Belgian Police Detain Suspected Organizer of Brussels Blasts - Reports

Mohamed Abrini, suspected organizer of blasts in the Brussels airport and accomplice of likely Paris attacks mastermind Salah Abdeslam, was detained Friday in a special operation in the Belgian capital, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the police broke into a building in Brussels' Schaerbeek Commune that had been cordoned off beforehand. The media reported that two explosions and gunfire had been heard during the operation. One person was detained.

According to the Sudinfo portal, citing its sources, Abrini was the person taken into detention by Belgian police.

The special operation finished and the cordon has been removed, according to local authorities.

On Tuesday, two suicide blasts hit the departures hall of Brussels' Zaventem international airport and an explosion shook a subway carriage at the Maelbeek station, close to the EU institutions. Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The deadly terror attacks in Brussels on Tuesday claimed the lives of at least 32 people and injured over 300.
