Najim Laachraoui Identified as Second Suicide Bomber in Brussels Airport

According to Belgium's De Standaard newspaper, a suicide bomber who struck Brussels airport on Tuesday was Najim Laachraoui.

Laachraoui, who was born May 18, 1991, is a native of Schaerbeek, a municipality located in the Brussels-Capital Region of Belgium. 

The police have been actively looking for Laachraoui in connection with the Paris attacks, after his DNA was found on some of the explosive material used in the November attacks in Paris. 

Earlier on Wednesday, Belgian Interior Minister Jan Jambon said that Tuesday's attacks in Brussels were unlikely linked to the recent arrest of Salah Abdeslam, suspected of involvement in the Paris attacks.

Laachraoui was believed to be the only suspect remaining on the run following Tuesday's attacks, where brothers Khalid and Brahim el-Bakraoui died carrying out bombings at Brussels airport and Maalbeek Metro station.

On Tuesday, 31 people were killed and some 270 injured in two bomb blasts in the Brussels Zaventem airport and an explosion at the metro station in central Brussels. The country's security level has been raised to maximum following the attacks.
