MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The North Atlantic Council (NAC), NATO’s main political decision-making body, strongly condemned on Wednesday the Daesh-claimed deadly blasts in Brussels, vowing to protect transatlantic values from terrorists.
On Tuesday, at least 31 people were killed and some 260 injured in explosions at the Brussels Zaventem airport and in the city’s metro.
"We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks in Brussels… We will defend our values against the callous acts of those who seek to strike against them. We are resolute in our determination to prevent and defeat terrorism," the NAC’s statement read.
The council has also expressed condolences to the families of the victims, to the injured, and to all those affected.
Immediately after the attacks, NATO stepped up the security at its Brussels headquarters and decided to raise its alert level there, an alliance spokesperson told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
