Operations of Belgian Nuclear Power Plants Restored After Evacuations

The operations of Belgian nuclear power plants, evacuated earlier Tuesday following terrorist attacks in Brussels, have been fully restored, the International Atomic Energy Agency said.

Belgian Tihange Nuclear Power Station Evacuated
VIENNA (Sputnik) – According to a spokesperson, the work of the Doel and Tihange nuclear power stations continued even after support personnel was evacuated.

The spokesperson told RIA Novosti that main staff was not evacuated, while support personnel returned to work later in the day.

Earlier in this month, the Belgian Interior Ministry announced that servicemen would be protecting these nuclear power plants from possible terrorist attacks.

Earlier on Tuesday, at least 34 people were killed and some 230 injured in two bomb blasts in the Brussels Zaventem airport and an explosion at the Maalbeek metro station in central Brussels.
