Ukraine's Poroshenko Expects Political Crisis Settlement by End of March

The political crisis that has gripped Ukraine over the past month may be regulated by the end of March, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Thursday.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — The Ukrainian cabinet faced a de-facto collapse last month after a parliamentary faction aligned with Poroshenko described its 2015 work as unsatisfactory and the prime minister’s government survived a no-confidence vote the following day.

“We have a discussion of political crisis in Ukraine, and I hope before end of the month we find out a political solution,” Poroshenko told reporters alongside European Council and European Commission leaders.

Poroshenko contended there would be no early parliamentary elections and a new coalition would be reform- and European integration-oriented.

The no-confidence vote that nearly forced Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk out of office set the stage for various factions to exit the ruling parliamentary coalition.

The Ukrainian Constitution stipulates that the president may dismiss the parliament and hold snap elections if no ruling coalition is formed within 30 days.
