MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, The Sun daily reported that the head of the British monarchy has voiced her support for the country leaving the bloc several times over the past decade, specifically in a conversation with Clegg, who is known for his anti-EU stance.
"Re Sun story. As I told the journalist this is nonsense. I've no recollection of this happening and it’s not the sort of thing I would forget," Clegg wrote in his official Twitter account.
According to Buckingham Palace, the Queen remains politically neutral as she has been for 63 years.
UK citizens are set to vote on June 23 in a referendum on the country's EU membership after UK Prime Minister David Cameron and the leaders of the 27 other EU member states reached a deal in February to grant London a special status within the bloc.
