Crisis in Moldova: What's Russia's Next Move?
CHISINAU (Moldova) (Sputnik) – Romanian President Klaus Iohannis’ National Liberal Party (PNL), part of the ruling Christian Liberal Alliance (PNL-PDL), has launched an information campaign to integrate its eastern neighbor of Moldova.

PNL developed a strategy document last week prioritizing a de-facto unification of the two sovereign states against the backdrop of integrating Moldova with the European Union.

"This document is a starting point and basis for discussion for all Romanian political forces, civil society and, in particular, for the citizens of Moldova," Senator Viorel-Riceard Badea said at a press conference in Chisinau on Friday.

The strategy with a stated aim to support Moldova’s European integration path, dubbed "Republic of Moldova – Romania’s Priority Policy," defines steps to unite the neighbors’ media space, economies, social policies, and infrastructure and education systems. Common border, police and gendarmerie structures are also proposed among other areas.

Moldova’s Right-Wing Opposition Calls for Unification With Romania
Badea was quick to assure that the strategy "does not say anything about unification."

"PNL proposed to Romanian society a formula of political consensus on the issue of relations with the Republic of Moldova," the Romanian lawmaker stressed.

Moldova has been engulfed in protests since September 2015, with rallies erupting sporadically. A coalition of opposition forces demands the resignation of the Moldovan president, the prime minister and the chief prosecutor, while also calling for early parliamentary elections and action to tackle corruption.
