The revelation comes at a time of high terror threat within Europe, with the EU law agency Europol Friday warning that Daesh, also known as ISIL, and other terrorist groups are plotting more terror attacks in Europe.

Against the background of high terrorist threat, many in Germany were horrified to discover that left-politician, music producer and songwriter Diether Dehm employs Klar in his parliamentary office. The lawmaker told Die Welt newspaper:

"Christian Klar has been working self-employed working on web design on a very low monthly rate for a few years to my complete satisfaction."

Red Army Faction

Klar once belonged to the Red Army Faction a notorious terrorist group that carried out numerous crimes including murder, bombing, kidnapping, hostage-taking, bank raiding and arson between 1970 and 1998. The Red Army Faction grew out of the original Baader-Meinhoff Gang, formed of Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin, Ulrike Meinhof, Horst Mahler and others. Between them they were responsible for 34 deaths in a string of appalling crimes carried out over 30 years.

Klar himself was charged, convicted and imprisoned of many crimes including the April 1977 murder of the Attorney General of Germany Siegfried Buback, his driver and his bodyguard, the July 1977 murder of Jürgen Ponto, the chairman of the Dresdner Bank and the kidnap and murder of leading industrialist Hanns Martin Schleyer and the murder of his driver and three bodyguards.

Klar was also convicted of the attempted murder of a Swiss border guard and a motorist, the attempted rocket attack on the offices of the federal prosecutor, a Zurich bank raid, which included the murder of a bystander and the attempted murder of a policeman. His convictions also included an assassination attempt on US General Frederick Kroesen using an RPG-7 anti-tank rocket in 1981.

He was imprisoned from 1982 to December 2008 after serving over 26 years of his life sentence, but showed no remorse for his crimes.

Lawmaker Diether Dehm posted on his Facebook page: "Christian Klar has been imprisoned for 26 years and cannot be held to be guilty following his release. The Left Party is a firm [believer in the] rule of law: a prohibition would be totally incompatible with the chance to rehabilitate."
