MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Officers from the United Kingdom's West Midlands Police Counter Terrorism Unit arrested two men on Tuesday on suspicion of links to Syrian-related terrorism offenses, the local police service said in a statement.
"Officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit have today (Tuesday 12 January) arrested two people in Walsall on suspicion of Syria related terrorism offences," the statement reads.
The detainees, aged 25 and 35 years old, were arrested in the West Midlands' town of Walsall, at their home addresses, it was specified in the statement. According to the announcement, local police have been searching a number of addresses in the Walsall area with alleged links to the suspected terrorists.
Under the United Kingdom's terrorism law, West Midlands Police have 48 hours to question the suspects before undertaking further action, including charging or releasing them or applying for a warrant of further detention.
According to the statement, the men in question do not pose an immediate threat to public safety.
