MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the BBC’s Sunday report, two-thirds have voted against a bill defines marriage as a union between two adults.
In March, the parliament passed a marriage equality law, but it was challenged before any same-sex couples got married, according to the BBC.
In May, the Republic of Ireland became the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage through a referendum.
In June, the US Supreme Court ruled in a 5-to-4 decision that same-sex couples have the right to marry across all 50 US states. Before the court's ruling, 37 states and the District of Columbia allowed same-sex marriages, while the remaining 13 banned it.
