Dozens of Migrants Go on Hunger Strike in Czech Refugee Camp - Reports
PRAGUE (Sputnik) The Czech Republic could send military personnel to Macedonia to help the latter defend its borders against illegal border crossings, Czech Defense Minister Martin Stropnicky said Thursday.

"A situation might emerge when it will be necessary to send to Macedonia, apart from police officers, military personnel to help fight with the migrant crisis," Stropnicky said at a briefing after a meeting with his counterparts from Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, as quoted by Ceska Televize.

The Czech Republic said earlier that it would send 25 police officers to help deal with the situation in Macedonia.

Europe is struggling to cope with a massive refugee influx, as hundreds of thousands of people flee conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa in search of safety and stability in Europe.

The Macedonian authorities asked Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic for assistance amid the deteriorating situation on its border with Greece – the main transit route for refugees from the Middle East.
