RIGA (Sputnik) – Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma announced her resignation after a meeting with President Raimonds Vejonis, Delfi reported on Monday.
The meeting between Straujuma and Vejonis was not scheduled, but the prime minister said she had intended to meet with the president Monday morning.
Straujuma said earlier she might be replaced by either Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis or Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics.
The former prime minister's center-right Unity party formed a ruling coalition with two parties after trailing one seat to the Social Democratic Party "Harmony" in the October 2014 elections.
The Baltic online portal reported Vejonis has accepted the cabinet's resignation.
