According to a US senior administration official, Joe Biden is due to address Ukraine’s parliament next week.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) —US Vice President Joe Biden will address Ukraine’s parliament Rada as well as will hold meetings with the country’s President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk next week, US senior administration official told reporters on Wednesday.

The official added that Biden will arrive in Ukraine on Sunday, and will have bilateral meetings with Ukraine’s leadership on Monday. The Vice President is expected to speak before the country’s parliament on Tuesday.

“He [Biden] will make the argument that legislators in the Rada also have a special obligation to keep Ukraine moving forward,” the official said.

During the bilateral meetings, Biden will discuss Ukraine’s economic and humanitarian needs, the reforms to fight corruption, as well as the progress on the Minsk agreement implementation, among other issues, the official added.

Biden’s visit to Ukraine will be his fifth trip to that country since he took office in 2009, according to the White House.

The United States has been providing Ukraine with economic and military aid following the 2014 political crisis and Crimea’s referendum to reunite with Russia. Top US State Department and Treasury officials have also frequented the country.

Washington has provided Kiev with more than $266 million in military equipment and training, while the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has pledged to give Kiev some $17 billion in loans over a two-year period.
