The UK House of Commons is expected to debate extending Britain’s air campaign against Daesh (ISIL, Islamic State) to Syria on December 2, local media reported Monday.

LONDON (Sputnik) — This comes after Labour Party’s pro-peace leader Jeremy Corbyn asked Prime Minister David Cameron to hold a two-day debate on the proposed Syria airstrikes in parliament ahead of any vote, the British national broadcaster, the BBC, reported.

Cameron is due to make a statement on his proposal for British military involvement in Syria later on Monday in a bid to shore up support for his plan. No authorization from the Syrian government has been requested.

The United Kingdom has been at war with Daesh in Iraq for a year as part of a US-led coalition. In Syria, its drones have carried out several precision attacks against Daesh militants.

An international coalition of 65 nations has been fighting for over a year to defeat Daesh in Iraq and to a lesser extent in Syria, where Russia has been conducting airstrikes against Daesh positions at the request of President Bashar Assad since September. Russia has outlawed Daesh on its territory, classifying it as a terrorist organization.
