Over 200 people were arrested in Paris on Sunday during a banned rally to urge a deal at an upcoming United Nations summit on climate change, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The rally was held despite a ban on all demonstrations under a state of emergency announced in the wake of recent terrorist attacks in the city.

Some 10,000 people formed a three-kilometer human chain along the route of the demonstration, Le Figaro reported. The arrests were made after clashes erupted in the Place de la Republique square with a number of masked demonstrators hurling objects at police, according to the media.

Police in Paris are now identifying those who threw objects at police using cctv. Meanwhile everyone is hemmed into a corner of the square

Paris will host the 21st UN Climate Change Conference from November 30 to December 11. The conference aims to reach a legally binding agreement on climate change to replace the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
